Few and far between

…. that’s how my “blog” posts are this year. Neat huh? I knew you would like it.

Anyways. Last Friday night, there was a show in Milwaukee. The Bled with Poison the Well. I really didn’t want to go to this show, as the bands are “ok” but I’ve been a bit more picky on what shows I go to lately. Well, Mike really wanted to check out The Bled, and I said that if he drove, I’d go with him… I’m such a pal! It was just about how I thought it would be, a lot of kids there doing their “metalcore” thing. I would have rather not gone. Yeah, the bands were okay, the tickets were free, but, well, I think watching a movie or something would have been more fun! The saving grace… it was an early show and we were home by 11:30!

Saturday was the big ol V-Day. I could go into how it’s a hallmark holiday and all that, but being single it really didn’t bother me either way. I’m sure it’s all special for people that can celebrate the day together or something. My plans for Valentine’s day were set in stone on Xmas eve, when my mom gave my sister and I each a pair of tickets to see Mamma Mia So, yeah, my mom has been all about this musical based on the music and songs of Abba since she saw it sometime last year in Appleton. I asked my friend Nora if she wanted to come with, since, well, apparently she’s ALL ABOUT Abba! And, yup, she sure was. After having dinner with my mom, marv, marv’s son Steve and his Fiance Jenny and her parents, along with Sandi and Farrell, we headed over to the Civic Center. I’ve always liked live shows. Plays, musicals, anything on a stage seems to entertain me. Yes, a musical about Abba was good for this ol metalhead!

It was pretty loud like a concert, even in the balcony… I’m pretty sure there was a live band playing there, and just the talent of the performers involved is so great. The vocals were a little hard to hear over the music, but it was very good, and very entertaining!

Sunday, just another humdrum day. My friend rachel came over and watched an old school movie… Logan’s Run. Good ol 70’s sci-fi and wardrobes, hairdos, etc. And Monday, back to work!

Monday night was the last night of our WORT Pledge drive for this season. I didn’t have much in the lines of cool “Premiums” to offer listener sponsor types, but everything worked out well. A bunch of concert tickets with pledges, and some cds/videos. I made my goal both weeks! Thanks metal head listeners!

Tuesday, I was off from work. There are a lot of bands that I play on my show that tour the U.S. a lot of times these bands will play many cities, including Madison or Milwaukee. Other times, some really good bands will come only as close as Chicago. Of those, I have to REALLY like a band and well, the whole lineup for that matter to make the trip to Chicago to see a band. Dream Theater will always be a band I will want to go to Chicago for, even if they play in Milwaukee too! In this case, Opeth with Devildriver and Moonspell were playing at the House of Blues in the Windy City. I’ve seen all three bands within the last year, so I knew they would all be great. It was an early show (doors opened at 5:30), so we wanted to get down there early to beat traffic and make sure my tickets were available. We left the south side of Madison at 2pm, and arrived at the House of Blues right about at 4pm. Plenty early! We were a little hungry, so we decided to grab a late lunch at the HoB restaurant! Turned out it was a good time killer, not a bad deal for the food, and to top it off, having eaten at the restaurant, you get to go to the front of the line before the doors open up! So, we were like 4th in line, (others had the same plan)! Actually met up with quite a few people from Madison at the show! Anyways, the let us in, and we went right up front. Then figured, well, we aren’t gonna stay here all night, then eyed up the balcony. Mike went up and scoped it out… it was wide open, so we took the front row center of the balcony! Best place to see a show! :D So the show was AWESOME! All of the bands were great, the sound was perfect. Opeth is just amazing live, so dynamic and virtually flawless! Best show i’ve seen all three bands play! The drive home was hunky dory and now here I am on Thursday night typing a blog post to you.

How am I doing in fantasy hockey? Well, right now I’m in 1st place! I’ve been see-sawing back n forth between that and 2nd place. I haven’t been talking about it on purpose, as I usually tend to jinx myself whenever I type anything here.

Tim is coming this weekend, nothing big planned… maybe a movie or something!
