Long Time No Post
Friday 28 November 2003 @ 11:59 pm

Yeah, wonderful…

i just had another huge post almost done, and lost it, that is a real pain in the ass. let’s recap:

I said:

I don’t post as much anymore, 1) I’m lazy, 2) not many comments anymore, so I don’t think anyone reads, and 3) yup, that’s guilt!

Then I recapped day one of having Tim for his longest trip to matt’s house. and that went like this:
Pickup at 8, come home, hang out, grampa came over, we went to mazomanie with tess, pickup meals, delivered meals in black earth and cross plains for meals on wheels, back to mazomanie to drop off insulated containers, back home. Hang out, try to nap to sounds of “matt play with me,” then to the store, and video place. Then, a lil more hangout time, then over to Gramma’s house. Helped with some xmas stuff, dinner, hotwheels cars, mashed tatos, chicken for dinner, then finding nemo on the big screen. We came home and it was bed time, and here I am typing:

Concert recap since last post:
11/20 Type O Negative / Cradle of Filth / Moonspell… great show all around, entertaining!
11/21: local bands Mirror Black and Soulkeep. I know the guys in mirror black, and they play some great covers, it was their first time playing “out”
11/23: Symphony X and Devin Townsend band. SymX is like a heavier Dream Theater, and they put on a perfect show, just awesome! DTB was pretty damn cool too, Devin is a funny entertaining guy in and of himself.

Other stuff…. went out with some IRC #wisconsin friends on friday before the Mirror Black show, met some new people, which is always cool. It’s nice to put a face to the “screen name” I left that gang to see the mirror black show, I guess I missed out on some fun!

Fantasy Hockey: Lately, it’s just still really sucked, and I don’t even really care to waste my time on it much. My salary level is probably lower than it was when the season started.

My Friend Tom with Bruce came up from chicago to visit on wednesday, that was super cool! Nora came out too, she lives 5 min away, and I never get to see her, so it was cool to hang out again. I left the night thinking I had to work at 8am on t-day, because there were issues with the FOX satellite dish at work, but the boss called at 4:30 am to let me know he got it working and i could sleep in. He should get an award for working pretty much all day.

Tuesday was cool too, went to a badger men’s b-ball game, it’s always fun to have free tix to the kohl center!

and, well, i’m done with this post! feel free to comment

A poast!
Wednesday 19 November 2003 @ 12:27 am

Hey, cool, I’m poasting!!

I really don’t have much to say, so I will just type along and see what comes out. Tonight i had chinese food for dinner, at the Imperial Garden in Middleton. They are perennial favorites in newspaper reviews and polls and whatnot. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, and it’s always good. I was sitting at work, wondering “what am I going to do for dinner?” Because really, i totally have to get on a regular eating schedule. That way, I might watch what I eat a little better, save some money by not going out, etc etc. It’s probably just as hard of a habit to break as smoking. Learn to curb the appetite until i fix a normal portion of food.

Oh, so yeah, I had hot n sour soup, an egg roll and imperial chicken. Yum.

At work today? I got to show the sales staff the basics of the new laptop (it’s a sweeet dell latitude D600, loaded!) And set up the new bossman’s computer. It’s been quite busy lately, and the state of mess in my office shows that as well.

Our xmas party comes up soon too… dec 11. I think i’ll wear my suit. It’s funny, the non dress up people dress up for this thing, and the sales people (dress up people) wear sweaters n dockers n stuff. It’s always fun.

the Mosh Pit. Last night… busy busy. Just for some reason, it seemed hectic. I usually prepare a list of at least 25 new things to play… then there are requests, mike’s picks, etc. A band came in, which led to a set of local stuff, talking to the band, I just got behind… But a nice block of 2 minute songs caught me up quick!

What is up with rain on mondays. I’m sorry, but some people I chat with are with me on this one. It seems like… it rains… it’s monday, the day I have to drive downtown, carry a bunch of cds outside for a little bit to get into the radio station….blah blah blah. I just you know, um, realize that it seems to pick Mondays to rain on. That’s all.

enough for now…

Sunday Sunday
Monday 17 November 2003 @ 12:37 am

Well, the Packers pulled off a win today against the Fuckaneers. It’s about time! Hopefully the Pack can string more than one win in a row, and make it to the playoffs or a division lead!

This past week ended up being busy. The weekend, not so busy. Monday, the usual Mosh Pit show night. Tuesday… I worked late for a sales presentation thing, then had to go back to work and work! Crazy.

Wednesday, I went out to my dad’s to water his plants… he’s in Jamacia. So, while I made the trip out there… I stayed for a while. Tried to fix the lockup problem on his computer… and went through some of my stuff in the basement. I had a big box of t-shirts… mostly Band shirts and other t-shirts from college, that I really never wore, just had… ya know? So they were all folded up nicely in a box in the corner on the floor. Hindsight… bad move. This box has been there for a couple years. So I started checking out some of the shirts, and found that somehow some bird seed was dumped in the corner at some point, and that some critters, moths or mice got intot he box and managed to chew holes in a few (about a third) of the shirts. I wasn’t too broken up about it though… as I’ve had these shirts for a long time, and never really wore them. I was planning on letting some friends have a crack at the good ones, then throwing out or goodwilling the rest of them. :) After that, I went to Sauk City to visit Cindy bartending on her last night there. She moves to CA this week… I’m gonna miss her!

Thursday, I just came home and hung out. Whew. Actually, I did the same on Friday too, but then went out later for a band practice of Mirror Black… a cool local band that plays covers of the kind of metal i like the most! (Nevermore, Megadeth, etc) Saturday… yesterday, Hmmm. weak day. Went to a craft fair with my mom to visit our old Delafield neighbors… that was cool, then I came home and lazed out. But later on, back to my Mom’s for dinner and to hang out with my cousins from Green Bay. Then it was back home for a boring saturday night. Not a big deal, I have a little cough, so it was nice to nurse it, and not be in a smoky bar. Today, a nice day doing nothing again.

This blog sure got boring lately, eh?

My Fantasy Hockey team sure has tanked at smallworld, was at 2nd for a while, went down to 4th, then up to 2nd, then down to 4th, now down to 5th. (out of 7) UGH! I don’t care as much this year… what can you do? Yahoo Hockey… yeah, don’t even ask.

I’m still rocking out on the new Dream Theater. It came out Tuesday, called Train of Thought. It’s a good hard rock/ metal cd, so if you like older Metallica, with some Iron Maiden mixed in, with um, a lil spin of Rush. Check this out!

No concerts all last week (since Sunday)… it was a nice break!

Check this out
Yeah, the guy that got arrested is (was) a regular in my IRC Undernet Chat room
what a dumbass!

4 days
Monday 10 November 2003 @ 7:25 pm

wow, only 4 days since the last post…

The new Dream Theater CD comes out tomorrow. Yes, I am weak and have downloaded it already. It is very metal! \m/ I will be at best buy at some point tomorrow to make the purchase. Gotta support the band!

And here’s what you’ve all been waiting for…. more news on concerts! Yeah, it’s a busy concert season, and here goes. I requested some tickets for Primus on Saturday night… waited all week, and found out SATURDAY MORNING that I had tix. So, went with Mike and Todd. Todd had previously purchased a ticket. I’ve seen Primus many times and it’s always been a good show. Not this time! This tour they are playing all of their “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” album… their best. Well…… They jammed out on just about every song, which made it excruciatingly boring. I hate to rip on a band like that, but really, I’ve seen them put on great high energy shows, and this was just boring. Oh well.

The next night was the MTV2 Headbanger’s Ball tour. Tri-headlining with Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God. Unearth was opening. Now this show did NOT disappoint. I have seen all of these bands this year, and knew what I was getting into. Unearth is more of a hardcore band, and they are very animated on stage… they went to the School of Rock! hehe They are great, and got a decent record deal. Next up was Shadows Fall… Awesome show as always, so many different old metal, new metal, swedish metal, thrash metal influences and stuff, just awesome! Killswitch Engage… along with Shadows Fall were on Ozzfest’s second stage this summer. KsE was kind of a letdown at Ozzfest, a little too whiney and not as aggressive as their newest album. But Sunday night… yeah!!! They came out with something to prove, and didn’t let up. Fun to watch and the songs all rocked. The icing on the cake rounded out the show. Lamb of God came out, and showed everyone what American Metal should sound like. They didn’t let up for 45 minutes and as Randy (the singer) said, “we didn’t come here to fuck around” And, no they didn’t!!! Lamb of God opened for Anthrax earlier this year, and Randy actually came down to WORT after they played in Madison and hung out on the Mosh Pit. So, yeah, They really stirred it up, and really I can’t say enough on how “METAL” that band is!

Whew. Next post, I promise will be a post about nothing, as there are no planned concerts til 11/20. (I’m glad all this stuff is free!)

Long time Comin’!
Thursday 6 November 2003 @ 12:59 am

Yeah, i’ve been weak at the updates.

So, here goes. The last one was Halloween, right?

Since then, I’ll just go day by day…

Friday night, it was a concert again in milwaukee, I wrote something up in my weekly metal report email, so I’ll just paste it here, cuz, well, why write it up twice!? Here goes:

King Diamond / Entombed / Nocturne / Single Bullet Theory was on Halloween night. Who better to spend Halloween with than the King? Great show… And a few encores. Was just really cool. Also, a band played in the bar Under Threat… I believe they are on Conquest Records… From Columbia, but living in Wisconsin now. (!) They simply crushed and I would love to see them again, a great pleasant surprise for the night.

That was a fun night, and it all ended once again at the Pinecone in Johnson Creek with some greasy breakfast!

Saturday was decent, ended up bowling with a friend, and whoa, I got a whole 103 something average over 4 games. Then it was time for some rest to make up for the Thursday and Friday of concerts.

Sunday was veg day… Cleaned up my desk area, caught up on some other things, and watched the Packer game! YES!!!!! Of course, the Packers won, and it’s about time they won up in that wretched Dome of a stadium!

Monday, back to worky poo. Kept busy with getting some computers ordered and getting ready to install a new switch for the network. It’s quite the upgrade, and also, fun to get new stuff!
Later on, it was MoshPit time! Lots of tickets to give away for shows at the Rave in Milwaukee. It is a busy time for shows! I guess a lot of bands want to get a tour in before the end of the year. Which makes sense. New releases are very slow towards the end of the year. There have been a LOT of new albums over the last few months, so I’m guessing, well, a lot of them are touring now to support those albums.. Yeah, that’s it. Record labels and trade magazines pretty much shut down the last 3 weeks of the year, so they aren’t going to release anything close to that. Even now it’s pretty slow for new releases!

Okay, so Tuesday… fun time again, got to work late, left early, I suck! Left early to go to the Rave in Milwaukee once again… I asked Dave to come with this time… and he was up for some evil music goodness. This time for a death metal concert. Normally I wouldn’t go to a show like this because out of 4 bands, only one or two will be any good. This bill, all four I’ve either seen and liked, or I like their albums! So here it goes: opening the show was As I Lay Dying… kind of a hardcore/death extreme band. Good performance, even more entertaining was the pit, because hardcore band “mosh pits” are different! The Kids flail their arms and legs around VIOLENTLY. meaning, get the hell out of the way. It’s weird. What made matters worse though, is, as these hard core kids, well, they each step into the “pit” one at a time and do their thing, almost like a gymnastics performance… but when they get doing that, then some real metal mosher dood comes in… he slams into everyone like a REAL metal pit, well, let’s just say it’s not good for business. Whew…

Okay, yeah, that band was great, how about the next one… evil Extreme metal from Poland, Behemoth. Their newest album is just sickenly heavy. They came out with corpse paint on, and some big spikey things on their legs. But, yeah, they came out and just tore up the place, fast, heavy, aggressive, probably satanic. (not that you can understand them anyways). But the drummer, almost a constant thumpathumpa on the double bass drums. Very good, very impressive. Next up was Skinless. I caught these guys at Milwaukee Metalfest this summer. Normally a “cookie monster” death metal band will just stand there and growl/play. Not this band! Full on engergy. No angry faces and pissed off looks. These guys were HAPPY to be playing death metal! And it was awesome! Very entertaining.

Lastly… Six Feet Under… Not the heaviest, most aggressive, extreme band.. more of a groove in their songs with Chris Barnes as the lead throat. He can really give the coookie monster grow!! For those who have no idea… Chris Barnes used to be in Cannibal Corpse. Cannibal Corpse was the metal band in the movie Ace Ventura! So yeah, they belted through a lot of their classics. Pretty entertaining show all in all. Not too many people there, but that was just fine!

And that whiddles down to today. I got to work a little closer to on-time, and stayed late! I installed that new switch. It’s a Dell 48 port 3048 for those of you who care. The install went fine, had to disconnect all of the cables in the server closet. I patched everything back nice and neat this time! The only snag was getting the cover off to get all the dust bunnies out!

So that leaves me with tonight. I managed to find an early copy of an album that comes out on Tuesday! :) I’m weak… had to get it…. and it RULES!! :)
So, that’s it for now!
